Roding’s Board of Governors

We have vacancies on our Board of Governors – one for a parent governor and a couple for co-opted governors.  To be part of the Board provides an opportunity to learn about the ‘backroom’ running of the school as well as supporting and influencing this.  It is a rewarding role, working towards a shared goal of providing a high-quality education for children in your community. It also provides an opportunity for personal development, building your skills and experience in areas such as project management, budgeting and working as part of a senior team. Please read our Chair of Governors report for last year and fill in the form if you are interested in joining our Board.  https://www.rodingprimary.co.uk/redbridge/primary/roding/site/pages/allaboutus/governingbody Thank you.

KidsOwn Afterschool Club

Here is some more information about KidsOwn clubs for primary school age children;

KidsOwn is registered to look after children of Nursery age up until Year 6 age and we currently collect children from Churchfields and Oakdale Schools we will now be opening up at the Pavilion in Ashton Playing fields to support both Roding Primary and Ray Lodge Primary schools.

Afterschool Club

The children are collected from their classrooms and walk back to Ashton Playing Fields in their school groups.  The children then have free play until 4.30 when they wash hands before eating a snack,  together.  The snacks will include filled pitta breads, wraps, pancakes, fruit, vegetable sticks as an example.

All nursery and reception children are allocated a key person who is responsible for providing feedback to parents and monitoring their children’s progress, ensuring that we support the children’s individual needs and requirements.

We provide a range of activities each evening and these include arts and crafts, sports, quiet activity and group activities every evening.  There are also lots of free play activities for our children.

We are open until 6pm but of course you are welcome to collect at any time.  Snacks served at around 4:30/4:45pm.  We have a three-week rotational menu.

Afterschool

The cost per session is £12.50* for After School.  We calculate our fees on the 39-week academic calendar and they are then divided by the 12 months of the year so that you can set up a direct debit to us for the same amount each month.   There is also a deposit of £100.00 to pay.  We have a minimum booking of 2 evenings each week.

For further information please contact info@kidsown.co.uk 020 8504 5757.

Kind regards

Tanya Gaylor

Play Workers - Job opportunity

Due to expansion of the after school club at KidsOwn, we are currently recruiting for Play Workers to join our team as soon as possible.  We are looking for hard-working, highly motivated individuals who are committed to working as part of a team responsible for the welfare of children aged between 5 and 11.

The position will be located at The Pavilion at Ashton Playing Fields. You will be expected to participate in the school run collecting from Roding Primary school.  The hours are 3pm-6pm Monday to Friday (term-time only).  There may also be an opportunity to work during the school holidays at the KidsOwn Holiday Club for the right person.  A childcare qualification is not essential but a Level 3 NVQ would command a higher salary.  KidsOwn actively encourages staff development and it may be that this position would suit someone embarking on a career in the childcare industry.  Likewise, it would also suit someone who is looking for a career change or in search of extra hours in addition to an existing part-time position.

The only criteria we have for these positions are that our play workers must be passionate about our children and their work, be willing to go the extra mile and take the initiative and genuinely enjoy participating in activities that help to develop, support and entertain our children – duties can range from homework support to setting up active sports, craft, cooking, singing, dancing and whatever else you can bring to the KidsOwn team.

We would welcome applicants to send their CV to info@kidsown.co.uk in the first instance

Coats and Jumpers

Now that the weather is starting to get a little bit colder, we would just like to remind everyone to make sure all children wrap up warmly and wear a coat to school.

We also want to remind everyone to take their coat or jumper home again too.

We have a large number of coats (without names) waiting to be collected from lost property.

Please be aware, we do all we can to ensure personal belongings are kept safe and as part of that ask that you add your child's name clearly within all clothing/belongings.

When we are unable to find items reported as lost, this causes distress.

Parents & children are welcome to come and check lost property whenever items are lost.

We strongly advise against anyone bringing valuable items to school; children bring such items in at their own risk.

Thank you for supporting us with this.

Roding Primary Virtual Sports Day Class Winners 2020!

THE RESULTS ARE IN!!!

Attached is the information and results regarding our Virtual Sports Day. Well done to all those who took part in Roding Primary’s very first (and hopefully last!) ‘Socially distanced’ Virtual Sports Day. It was fantastic to see so many children get involved and take on the activities and challenges to try to be the best in their class! You have all proved that being apart from each other cannot stop our competitive Roding spirit. There was an excellent turn out across the majority of the year groups and it was great to see some family members’ lace up their trainers and get involved too! Thank you so much for all the videos, scorecards and photos; we have really enjoyed seeing them! We had over 100 in total sent in from across the school, which is outstanding! I hope that you had plenty of fun recording your efforts both in school and at home.

Please find below the results table and do have a look at the video below to see some of the amazing efforts of the children. I would like to apologise now if you handed something in and are not in the video, as unfortunately we could not include the whole school - we have taken a snapshot from all year groups. I would like to give a special mention to Mr Parry (Teacher of the Deaf and our IT lead) for putting the video together for us. Enjoy and well done to the Roding Community once again!

 Yours in Sport, Mr Ashbrook.

Children are More Than A Score

We have been showing the following clip to our Year 6 children this week, we  thought you may like to watch too.

Primary school is a time for self-discovery, building confidence and nourishing potential. But primary school children in England are being let down by a system that cares more about measurement than their education.

Our system is obsessed with league tables, turning children into data points and denying them a broad, stimulating education at key stages in their development. It puts an unnecessary burden on children, parents and teachers alike.

In SATs results week, some famous faces were recruited to send an inspiring message to year 6 pupils, their parents and their teachers.

We hope you enjoy the film and will share it too.

You can find the video on YouTube

(we have added the link to the website too.  Video Click here
