School Lunch - FREE for ALL

Thanks to the Mayor of London's Free School Meal Funding Programme for the full academic year, it won't cost you a penny!

All children have been automatically enrolled in the scheme, meaning all you have to do is login to your Pantry profile on our website, or give our Customer Service Team a call on 020 8813 7040 7:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and get your order in!

Roding kitchen

The school has its own kitchen where hot lunches are served every day. There is a daily choice, which includes vegetarian dishes and a halal option. In order to give all children a wide choice of meal during the week, classes go in to lunch on a rota basis.

Autumn 2023 census

Census date: Thursday 5 October 2023

Funding for pupils of statutory school age pupils is allocated based on autumn census returns.  This is why it is so important to order a school meal on 5th October 2023.  See the special menu for 5th October and make sure your child is booked in.

Free school meals and Pupil Premium:

It is important to ensure families continue to register for the Government’s Free School Meals programme to maintain pupil premium funding.  We must maintain or increase registrations, Roding want to promote registration and share the benefits to schools.  All parents are required to complete registration to ensure no funding opportunity is missed.

Therefore, if you receive one of the listed qualifying benefits, you should make an application for free school meals as Roding Primary school will receive extra funding

If your child is eligible for ‘free school meals’ and you register them for this, we’ll receive extra funding called ‘pupil premium’. We use this extra money to improve the educational provision and resources at the school.

What is pupil premium funding?

Pupil premium funding from the government is given to schools to help pupils reach their full potential, regardless of their background or financial situation. It’s provided for pupils who:

  • Are registered for free school meals
  • Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years
  • Are, or have been, in care
  • Have parents in the armed forces

At Roding Primary, we get an extra £1,455 for every eligible pupil who is registered for free school meals (these figures are for the 2023/2024 financial year). This extra money could make a real difference to the quality of education we offer.

For example, we’ve previously used pupil premium funding for:

  • Educational provision/resources
  • Academic interventions
  • Wellbeing and self-esteem building interventions

Is my child eligible for free school meals and other benefits?

Your child might be eligible if you access:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on
  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income not exceeding £7,400 (£616.67 per month)

Your child might also be eligible if you’re in a household with no recourse to public funds (NRPF), subject to a maximum income threshold. This is for children of:

  • Zambrano and Chen carers (non-EEA nationals caring for a British citizen residing in the UK)
  • British National (Overseas) passport holders
  • Spousal visa, work visa, or student visa holders
  • Those with no immigration status
  • Families with a right to remain in the UK under Article 8 of the European Convention of Human Rights
  • Families receiving support under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 who are subject to a no recourse to public funds restriction
  • Certain failed asylum seekers supported under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Does my child have to eat the free school meals?

No. Pupils who are registered for free school meals don’t have to eat them. If you’re eligible but you want your child to have packed lunches you should still register because the school will receive the funding which can support your child in other ways.

How do I register?

You only need to register once at the school.

You can check eligibility and should register online. Click Here!

Packed lunches & Healthy School:

Cold drinks may be brought in plastic flasks or bottles. No glass containers or canned or fizzy drinks are to be brought to school. No hot drinks or soups are permitted. All lunch boxes should be clearly marked with your child’s name.

We have a zero tolerance to “juice” - this will be replaced with water.

Please do not send your child in with juice.

Due to allergies we ask that no nuts are provided in packed lunches.  This means that no ’mainly nut’ foodstuffs, including Nutella,  sweets/drinks and cereal bars should be brought into school at any time.
