We have not produced a Newsletter today as we have been doing all we can to ensure the children are safe, secure and settled.

We were able to cover some elements around The Queen in assembly today.  Class teachers and staff were able to tailor input and support to the pupils in their immediate care in a more bespoke way.

This is how Newsround covered the story of the Queen yesterday:

Message from Redbridge Council Chief Executive, Claire Symonds

It is with overwhelming sadness that we mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in history. Her ascension to the throne was a vocation she never imagined she would have to undertake. But her dedication was unwavering.

She has often been described as the ‘ultimate public servant’ who has reigned with integrity and impartiality over 70 years. It is a deserved description, one that captures the values of public service. Although Her Majesty was our Queen first and foremost, she was also a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother not only to those in her family, but to the nation and beyond.

She was admired and respected by all, from world leaders to the many thousands of children who waited patiently with their posies on her countless walkabouts. Some of you may remember her visit to Redbridge to mark her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was part of the very fabric of our society. We have all grown up knowing who she was and what she stands for. She dedicated her entire life to our country, and today we stand together to mourn her loss. She will rightfully take her place in history not only as a truly remarkable Queen but a truly remarkable woman.

We know staff and residents will want to pay their own tributes to the Queen, and we have opened-up books of condolence and floral tributes sites at six locations. They are at Hainault Library, Central Library, Goodmayes Library, Wanstead Library, Woodford Green Library, and Valentines Mansion.

This is clearly a very sad moment for our country, and our communities in Redbridge will want to mourn and pay tribute in their own way. We will be sending out further messages around the ways in which the council will be supporting this.

The Government has confirmed that ALL schools will be closed on Monday 19th September, for Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.

Therefore, on Monday 19 September, the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral, Roding Primary school will be closed.  This will allow individuals, to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.

The Council held both the proclamation of the new King and a vigil for Queen Elizabeth over the weekend. There are further vigils planned this week.
