Roding Primary School & Nursery with Provision for Deaf Children.

Roding Lane North, Woodford Green, Essex, IG8 8NP

Nursery Provision

Roding Primary School nursery offers a 3 hour session in the morning 8.30am to 11.30am and afternoon session from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. This is funded by all children’s entitlement to 15 hours of free nursery education. We also have a limited number of 30 hours placements.

Staffed by a fully qualified teacher and two nursery nurses, Roding Nursery is able to offer access to the school’s facilities and offer a smooth transition into school. The nursery is integrated into the life of the school and takes part in whole school activities and special events.

Roding Primary School also has provision for deaf children – we have specialist teachers of the deaf and additional support staff. This allows us the scope to fully integrate our deaf children. Children will learn basic sign language alongside their deaf friends, and begin to become aware of the needs of the deaf community.

We offer a range of experiences to support the developmental needs of young children in line with National Guidance. With an emphasis on developing children’s communication skills, physical development and personal and social skills a range of fun activities are carefully planned to support the needs of the children in the class. Early numeracy and reading skills are developed over the year and small group and individual support given depending on children’s needs and abilities. We encourage children to become active and resilient learners Termly news letters keep you informed of the topics we are learning about, and our blog is updated regularly so you can see your children ‘in action’

The children access the school library and bring home a book to share at home with you each week. Dual language texts are available to support children with an additional language.

We have outstanding grounds in our school and a strong emphasis on outdoor learning. As well as a free flow system which allows children to play and develop their learning inside or out, our staff are trained as Forest School leaders and the children are taken to the forest and field area weekly. Our secure site enables us to provide a rich outdoor environment with wonderful opportunities to develop your child as an inquisitive active learner. All waterproof clothing is supplied by the school but we ask that you provide your child with wellington boots for Forest School days.

Fresh fruit is offered as a snack every day and we also prepare other healthy foods with the children and encourage them to try new things. We help children become aware of the need to stay healthy by eating the right foods, being active and having enough sleep. Milk or water is always available for children to access.

Open Evenings in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms allow you time to view your children’s books and discuss your child’s progress. However, staff are always happy to meet with you to discuss any problems or concerns.

You may request a visit to view our facilities through our school office. Once allocated a place you will be invited to visit the nursery with your child so we can introduce ourselves to you. We can also offer home visits at the beginning of term to help your child to become familiar with us before starting in nursery.
